Earth Workshop
in Ghana, Butre

Learn about sustainable construction in the picturesque Butre, Ghana, with us! From March 8 to March 29, 2024, we offer
three workshop sessions, where you not only learn about traditional and modern construction techniques but actively participate building an earth house. You are welcome to join us during the week or on the weekends. 

Our dedicated group is involved in various on-site projects, from adobe construction to the straw hut – there is a lot to learn!

Workshop Topics & Activities

Connecting with Eachother

Come and meet new people at our workshop, where we'll engage in various group activities. Enjoy the flavours of delicious Ghanaian meals, and relax around cozy bonfires.

Earth Basics for beginner

We'll start with an introduction to earth buildings, followed by a session on how to analyze clay effectively. The workshop will also cover various earth building techniques, including wattle and daub, rammed earth and building an adobe floor.

Hands on
Earth

Try your hand at constructing a wattle and daub wall, crafting an adobe floor, or building a rammed earth wall. You'll also have the opportunity to work with us on various
on-site projects, ranging from interior design and adobe construction to building a straw hut.

Thursdays

Afternoon: Arrival and Welcome. Get to know eachother. Keynote sessions on earth architecture.

Evening: Dinner, Bonfire and networking.

Fridays

Morning: introduction to earth buildings, how to analyse clay

Afternoon: introduction to earth building techniques: wattle & daub, rammed earth, adobe floor.

Saturdays

Morning: try yourself to build an wattle and daub wall, adobe floor or rammed earth wall.

Sundays

Morning: Join us in building ongoing projects that you're most excited about and find enjoyable.

Afternoon: Closing ceremony.

Workshop

Students

Our goal is to provide young students in architecture or civil engineering around the world with an inspiring workshop that brings them closer to the craft of building with earth. The workshop also offers a chance to connect with other students who share your interests.

Ghanaian residents

We are especially delighted to welcome participants from Ghana who are interested in exploring alternative building methods and incorporating earth into their projects. We also invite small as well as large Ghanaian construction companies to our workshop, who are looking to include earth construction in their services

Tourists

Our workshop offers a opportunity for tourists interested in learning more about local earth building arts. Learn from local artisans and craftsmen, gaining unique insights into their skills. Our experience is perfect for those looking for an educational and adventurous holiday experience.

Details

It is important to us to show appreciation for traditional earth construction knowledge. we involve local earth building masters in our processes. Since they will also be part of the workshop team, we will ask for a participation fee, which will be used to compensate the local earth building masters.

1) Registration Process

To reserve your spot, simply book the date of the workshop you wish to attend. We would be delighted if you reached out to us to share what you hope to gain from the workshop, introduce yourself, and indicate whether you are a student.

2) Prices

Complete Workshop Package - $240 Our workshop package is all-inclusive, covering the following:

  • Accommodation: Comfortable dormitory rooms for the duration of the workshop.

  • Meals: We offer a variety of Ghanaian dishes, providing a true taste of local cuisine.

  • Workshop Participation

  • One-Day Access: Interested in joining for just a day? We’ve got you covered! You can now book a single day for $75. This option is available only on Fridays and Saturdays. Reach out to us for more information on one-day bookings.

3) Accommodation Options

We've arranged comfortable dormitory rooms at the beautiful Zion Garden, 10$ per night, for your stay.

If you prefer, there are also other accommodation options available near the workshop location for your convenience.

A list of recommended accommodations near the workshop venue will be provided upon registration.

If you chose different lodging, please be aware that you'll need to book it yourself. Also, keep in mind these accommodation costs are not included in the workshop fee.
